July 27, 2010 - On July 16th Team Louisiana departed for Fargo, North Dakota to participate in the 2010 Cadet and Junior Freestyle and Greco-Roman Nationals. Team Louisiana has sent a team to Fargo every year since 1994 and has had moderate success in the past. Despite a handful of All-Americans at the "largest and toughest tournament in the world", Team Louisiana had never completed the tournament with a winning overall record or a National Champion - until now. Led by coaches Jonathon Orillion, Matt Pinero, JP Pierre, and team leader Jimmy Bible, Team Louisiana completed the tournament with a 58 - 53 record. Cadet Scott Gibbons became Louisiana's first ever Cadet or Junior National Champion in the Greco-Roman 152 pound bracket where he beat Burke Paddock of New York. Previously, Team Louisiana had only had one other finalist, future Olympian Daniel Cormier. Cormier lost in the finals that year to Justin Ruiz of Utah. Following his performance in Greco, Gibbons went on to place 3rd in the Freestyle tournament and earned the status of double All-American. Joining him as a double All-American was teammate Mark Pinero. Mark earned the bronze medal in Greco-Roman and went on to place 5th in Freestyle. 2010 marked the first time Team Louisiana had ever had two double All-Americans in one year. Previous double All-Americans for Team Louisiana were Daniel Cormier, Leon Ngchee and Ivan Muller. 2010 was a great year for Team Louisiana and they look to build on that success in years to come.
